Long Description:
The air conditioning systems in these buildings were installed in 1978. There are a total of nine cooling only air handlers, one per floor of each of the three buildings. Heating is provided by wall mounted radiators connected to a circulating hot water loop. A few electric resistance heaters are present. The air handling units are mounted above the ceiling which makes the frequently required servicing difficult. Each unit is supplied with chilled water for cooling and there is one thermostat per unit. Uniform cooling in each room is not always possible due to the single zone thermostat. The first level of Pettigrew was completed in 2005 as part of a separate project. The ductwork is internally insulated and because dirt and mold load up on the insulation surfaces, indoor air quality suffers. The units are connected to an outside air plenum but because the ductwork connecting to the plenum is sized at 12” x 6”, it is expected that the OSA % is minimized and does not meet today's standards. The nominal air flow capacities of each unit are: Battle Hall, 1st floor, 2874 CFM Battle Hall, 2nd floor, 2418 CFM Battle Hall, 3rd floor, 3097 CFM Vance Hall, 1st floor, 2622 CFM Vance Hall, 2nd floor, 2416 CFM Vance Hall, 3rd floor, 2841 CFM Pettigrew Hall, 1st floor, 2458 CFM Pettigrew Hall, 2nd floor, 2431 CFM Pettigrew Hall, 3rd floor, 2550 CFM
